Decreasing and Shapes

Maybe this can help the newbies doing the triangles.

Ways to decrease either side:

Cast on 30 stitches

Knit 1, Slip 1, Knit 1, Pass Slipped Stitched Over the Knitted Stitch, Knit 27

Knit 27, Slip 1, Knit 1, Pass the Slipped Stitch Over the Knitted Stitch, Knit 1.

Knit 2 together, Knit 28.

Knit 28, Knit 2 together.

Knit 1, Knit 2 together, Knit 27.

Knit 27, Knit 2 together, Knit 1.

Try some of these. Each produces it’s own design and look.

I am going to knit a parallelogram. This shape can be formed by decreasing by one stitch on one end and increasing by one stitch on the other.

If you want to make a really nice afghan for a child, you can knit various shapes in basic colors and then crochet them together. This will help the child learn shapes and colors.

Examples:
The only problems might be in knitting the oval and circle. They can be done but they’re a bit tricky for a new knitter but not too great a challenge.

  1. red - square
  2. green - circle
  3. purple - rectangle
  4. blue - triangle
  5. yellow - parallelogram
  6. pink - octagon
  7. orange - oval
  8. brown - hexagon

Good Luck
